In other words, you could be haunted for another five years by a late payment that you have run into in the past. Very annoying, especially when you incurred that coding due to circumstances that are now far behind you.

In addition, of course, there are always external circumstances that can affect how long it takes to remove your BKR registration.
For example, the lender in question may be dealing with a shortage of staff, causing files to take longer than usual. Removing a BKR registration may also take longer during vacation periods as staff go on leave.
But also consider, for example, market conditions. For example, at the time of writing - due to low interest rates - many people are in the market for a (business) loan or new mortgage. This leads to an increase in the number of requests for BKR removal, which can make it take longer for a lender to process a request.
