When does a BKR registration disappear?
After you pay off your debt, your negative BKR registration will remain visible in BKR for five years. Therefore, how long a negative BKR registration remains depends on when you pay off your debt.
In fact, the five-year term starts when you make your last installment and thus pay off your entire debt.
If you have an A code in the BKR due to payment arrears, then the five-year period begins to run from the moment an H code is listed behind it, i.e., the moment you meet your payment obligations again.
Example: that's how long a BKR registration lasts
Suppose you took out a loan with a ten-year term. This gives you a positive BKR registration. You fail to meet your payment obligations after one year and get an A code behind your BKR registration. So now you have a negative BKR registration.
After a short time, you will be able to meet your payment obligations again. Behind the A code, therefore, you will receive an H code.
From the time this H code is placed, all BKR codes remain for five years. After those five years, all codes disappear with your registration, which therefore turns the negative BKR registration back into a positive BKR registration for the remainder of your loan term.
Once you have repaid the entire loan, the positive BKR registration remains visible for five years. Lenders who view the BKR can then only see that you took out this loan and that it has been paid off in full, but can no longer see that you were ever in arrears on this loan.
