How long does deregistration from BKR take?
As we have seen, a BKR registration is simply the registration of a loan or debt you have taken out with the BKR. Logically, paying off that loan or debt would also mean the end of the BKR registration. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
This is because a BKR registration remains for five years, even after the loan has been fully repaid. This can be identified by an end date in your BKR statement, which indicates that the particular registration has been closed.
If you have always properly fulfilled your payment obligations, there is not much wrong with this. We then speak of a positive BKR registration.
However, if you have fallen into arrears, it will be converted into a negative registration, identified by an "A" (an arrears notice) on the registration. This A rating also remains visible for five years after the arrears - and even the entire loan - have been repaid.
Do you want to take out a new loan - for example, a mortgage? If so, the lender will consult the BKR register. A negative registration in your name, even one from the past that was paid off years ago, significantly reduces the chances of you being awarded the new loan.
Fortunately, in many cases it is possible to remove such a negative BKR code. No cure no pay is not what you need. What you do need is clarity and certainty in an uncertain period.
