How do you use this letter?

Download the sample letter and fill in your personal information in the designated fields. Briefly describe why the registration is causing you problems, for example, because you are unable to obtain a mortgage or loan. Then send the letter by email or certified mail to your lender’s Complaints or BKR Affairs department. You can find this information on your BKR statement or on their website. Always keep a copy and your proof of mailing.

What does the letter say?

The sample letter contains everything you need for a well-founded request:

  • Your personal information and the lender's information
  • The details of your BKR registration (contract number, type of credit, codes)
  • The reason why registration hinders you
  • An appeal to the proportionality test under the GDPR
  • Reference to relevant case law
  • A clear request for removal with a response deadline

When are you likely to be removed?

You have the best chance if the debt has been repaid in full and the registration puts you at a disproportionate disadvantage. The lender must weigh up your interests in having the registration removed against the general interest in credit registration. Special personal circumstances or a factually incorrect registration will strengthen your position.

No response or rejection?

If the lender rejects your request, or if you do not receive a response within 14 days, you can lodge an objection, submit a complaint to the BKR Disputes Committee, or seek legal assistance.
